Job Description

Rockwell Automation is hiring for a part-time development technician for a student who is pursuing a technical diploma.

  • This is a temporary short-term role based in the Mequon, WI facility. This role is slated to be a 2-3 month internship with the possibility of extension.
  • The schedule for this role will vary and has some flexibility within normal 1st shift operating hours.
  • You will work in a manufacturing and test lab environment.
  • You will support engineering activities such as design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems, experimental design circuitry or specialized test equipment. Applications include analog, digital and power electronic systems.
  • Perform test set-up, qualification testing, and data capture for test reports with specific direction and guidance to learn about power systems and testing.
  • Use test, development, and diagnostic equipment, including digital multi-meters, oscilloscopes, current and voltage probes, waveform generators, spectrum analyzers, and specialized test apparatus.
Your Responsibilities:
  • Work with engineers and technicians to learn about develop and testing of variable frequency drives
  • Perform component, subsystem, and product testing, evaluating performance per specification
  • Maintain and learn new technological skills so that they may be applied in product test or to development processes
  • Use and interpret the following test and development instrumentation: Digital oscilloscopes, voltage and current probes, tachometers, power supplies, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, EMC analyzers, surge generators, and partial discharge testers
  • Shall understand and practice laboratory procedures for the safe and efficient use of electronic instrumentation, electrical power, rotating electrical machinery, and general laboratory cleanliness
  • Write reports, test plans and other related or supporting levels of documentation
  • Use ordinary hand and power tools to construct and fabricate prototype circuits, sub-systems and systems commonly found in a power electronics industry
  • Use SW tools to work with to and control the operation of a variable frequency drive (VFD)
  • Troubleshoot, solder components and repair printed circuit boards
  • Compose well written, legible, and accurate notes of experiments, including a summary on interpreting test results and recommendations
  • Use software tools such as SAP and Windchill
  • Travel to off-site facilities in greater Milwaukee area for EMC, shock and vibration testing for product qualification and certification

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Solder experience
  • Experience using DMMs (Digital Multi Meters)
  • Experience using oscilloscopes
  • Experience safely working with high voltage (over 50V)
  • Meet RA physical job requirements for laboratory work and equipment handling
  • 8 hours on feet and moving around work cells, repeatedly lift 35 pounds, bend and form heavy MCM wire
