GAI Consultants has a career-building opportunity for an Engineer 1 within our Power Business Unit's Civil and Environmental Engineering Business Sector. GAI is an established and growing multi-discipline engineering firm with tremendous growth opportunities. This position is eligible for GAI's flexible Hybrid workplace place/Telework Policy and a Sign-on Bonus. GAI's Power Business Unit focuses on developing and supporting Energy, Institutional, Industrial, and Manufacturing clients.

Job Duties:



  • Plans, designs, and facilitates civil engineer project design tasks such as site grading and drainage design; access road design; erosion and sediment pollution control design; stormwater management design; report preparation; and permitting.
  • Performs technical and feasibility studies.
  • Collaborates with other professionals and discusses requirements with team members.
  • Uses computer programs to develop detailed designs.
  • Ensures that work products meet client, environmental, and safety requirements.
  • Performs work with minimal guidance and supervision.
  • Handles complex issues and refers only the most complex issues to more experienced staff.
  • Possesses strong working knowledge of civil engineering design tasks and a positive attitude.
  • Possesses strong knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and analysis modules.
  • Performs moderate to complex civil design tasks while delegating more routine tasks to staff with less experience.
  • Mentor, guide and check the work of less experienced staff.
  • Strong team collaboration, oral and written communication, design expertise, and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Adhere to the safety and quality procedures of GAI and our clients.
  • Travel to other offices/meet with clients/attend project-specific meetings.


Physical Requirements:



  • Physical requirements of the job include hiking moderate distances through unimproved terrain, utility rights-of-way, in remote areas, etc. in various temperatures and weather conditions. There is a possibility for potential hazards during fieldwork or site visit situations.

Minimum Years of Experience



  • 4+ years of experience.


Education



  • B.S. Engineering


Certification/Licensure



  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License


Technical Responsibilities



  • Designs a complete project, system, component, or process.
  • Prepares complete plans, specifications, and other project documents.
  • Designs and conducts investigations. Analyzes and interprets test data.


Project and Task Management



  • Assigns tasks to and directs other technical and non-technical staff.
  • Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work.
  • Prepares scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
  • Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects or programs.


Management Responsibility



  • Receives general direction on key objectives. Receives guidance, when necessary, on unconventional/complex problems, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria.
  • Assists with mentored experience to direct reports and junior staff through providing guidance, explaining professional responsibilities, and reviewing work products.
  • Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.


Communication Skills



  • Communicates effectively to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Demonstrates empathy and critical listening skills.
