Overview

The Vermont Department of Health is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced nurse to lead a dedicated, dynamic, and caring team towards improving population level health. This is achieved through the delivery of essential public health services and programs such as chronic disease prevention, immunizations, maternal and child health, healthy homes, infectious disease, school health, and emergency preparedness.

The position is a member of the Brattleboro District leadership team and supervises seven staff. The work involves extensive relationship building with staff, state partners, and community partners. Duties are performed under the supervision of a Public Health Services District Director. This is a unique opportunity to have a broad impact on Vermonters' health and wellbeing.

Responsibilities include performance management of nursing and non-nursing staff, coordination and implementation of local public health programs, as well as the provision of clinical direction to nursing staff. There is a focus on staff development, staff evaluation, program implementation, performance management, and evaluation of interventions to improve health outcomes.

Demonstrated ability to lead implementation of population-level public health interventions in a culturally competent way.

Demonstrated excellence in building collaborative relationships to address complex social issues that impact health.

Strong project management, group facilitation, and communication skills.

Strong supervision skills and considerable knowledge in conflict resolution, motivation and coaching skills.

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. Environmental Factors

Duties may be performed in a variety of settings including but not limited to clinics locations and office. Incumbents may be exposed to infectious diseases and bloodborne pathogens. Essential skills include the personal ability to endure stress, act judiciously in personally acting upon or directing others in emergency situations, demonstrate knowledge of and ability to apply techniques for varying behaviors, including, but not limited to physical and verbal aggression. Exposure to personal injury or danger may occur based on the patient population and the specialty setting. Ability to meet minimum physical abilities as defined by the setting including, but not limited to extensive periods of standing, walking, sitting, repetitive motion, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling and lifting. Duties may include travel and use of personal vehicle.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of, or eligibility for, licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Vermont OR eligible to practice in the state of Vermont via a multi-state license AND five (5) years or more of professional nursing experience in public health or community health nursing* INCLUDING one (1) year or more at a supervisory level OR leading a group or team.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

*Community Health Nursing is defined as school nursing, home health nursing, home visiting nurses and community nurse health educators.

NOTE: Must maintain Vermont licensure as a Registered Nurse OR eligible to practice in the state of Vermont via a multi-state license as a condition of employment.
