GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Summarize the nature and level of work performed.

Performs cardiac monitoring on patients to record and analyze variations in heart muscle electrical activity over a 1-30-day time period. Maintains reports and records of procedures for diagnostic purposes. Contacts physicians to communicate important findings when indicated.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Indicate key areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position. These items should be evaluated throughout the year and included in the written annual evaluation.

Preparation of patient for MCT, event, patch or Holter monitor testing: Performs skin preparation, application of patch or electrodes, verification of readable tracings on single channel ECG carts. Instructs patients in test requirements, completion of diary. Coordinates test with other labs (echo, stress, cath. and MRI) to ensure completion of study.

Scanning of recordings of patient ECG: Continuously teaches computer wave forms for analysis.

Immediately notifies physician of serious or critical arrhythmias, prior to review by EP physician.

Releases reports to staff physicians prior to review by arrhythmia physician to meet emergent needs of patient treatment or for review before discharge.

Patient event monitoring: Coordinates patients scheduling for monthly use of monitoring equipment.

Evaluates patient/equipment compatibility and determines proper assignment of equipment. Instructs patient in use of equipment. Acts as liaison between 3rd-party vendors and Holter Lab medical staff.

Office responsibilities: Schedules In/Outpatients for cardiac monitor application appointments. Performs benefit quote checks for vendors and obtains authorizations from patients' insurers when necessary. Distributes preliminary reports. Prepares and edits end-of-service reports. Maintains office/medical supply inventories. Compiles monthly usage and efficiency statistics. Provides finalized report hard copies quarterly for QA analysis.

Assists medical staff in varied research projects involving arrhythmia analysis, heart rate variability, ischemia and sudden death. Coordinates research analysis with electrophysiolgy studies.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: (MUST be realistic, neither overstated nor understated, and related to the essential functions of the job.)

High school diploma. Knowledge of arrhythmias. Good communication and typing skills. Knowledge of Universal Precautions. Knowledge of basic practice office systems.


SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: (MUST be realistic, measurable, objective, and related to the essential functions of the job.)

Knowledge of varied scanning systems, both prospective and retrospective.

Requires vast knowledge of arrhythmias
