Description General Summary
Under the general direction of a Manager and within established hospital and department policies and procedures, supervises department functions in area of assigned responsibility. Make daily operational decisions consistent with the missions of the hospital and the department. Coordinates deployment of resources to meet functional requirements. Participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.

Responsible for the direct supervision of up to 40 Environmental Services staff.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities



  • Promotes and facilitates patient/client-focused service with an emphasis on patient comfort and attaining a high level of client satisfaction.

  • Responsible for the daily supervision of up to 40 Environmental Services employees performing routine tasks in housekeeping, waste management, patient transport, and/or grounds

  • Assists Manager with various human resources functions including, in part:


  • Interviewing, evaluating & disciplining line staff

  • Providing on-the-job training to subordinate work group

  • Interpreting, implementing and auditing compliance for policies, procedures & practices

  • Developing and maintaining daily work schedules, adjusting resource allocations as required


  • Inspects the work results of his/her subordinate group, documents quality and evaluates performance based on results of quality inspections


  • Conducts and documents monthly staff meetings; interacts with other departments to plan, evaluate and coordinate the activities of the Environmental Services Department in assigned area.


  • Makes recommendations relating to resource allocation and systems management. Coordinates distribution/utilization of supplies and equipment related to operational responsibilities in a cost-effective & prudent manner


  • Develops & maintains effective working relationships with internal customers, staff of other departments, & other ESD staff


  • Prepares basic reports documenting productivity & quality of workgroup


  • Performs other similar or related duties as assigned or necessary.


  • Insures that function rooms are set up as requested, make sure that rooms are turned over quickly for the next function and cleaned as needed.


  • May be present in secure medication storage areas and are allowed incidental access to medications.

  • Provides classroom training for new hires and annual mandatory training


  • Submits purchase orders for departmental supplies and equipment, receives/deliver supplies and equipment, and keeps adequate inventory f supplies and equipment on hand.


  • Performs other similar or related duties as assigned or necessary.

Qualifications
Qualifications

High school diploma required; associate degree preferred. Additionally, 2 - 3 years of progressively more responsible related experience required.

Demonstrated communication skills - both oral and written

Demonstrated technical skills for healthcare environmental services


Skills and Abilities Required

Requires interpersonal skills sufficient to supervise subordinates, assign tasks and respond to customer requests in a sometimes-stressful environment

Ability to work with basic menu-driven software (Kronos, Peoplesoft, MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Access,etc.)

Requires basic knowledge of regulatory codes and accreditation standards (DPH, JCAHO, EPA, OSHA, DEP, etc.) related to operational responsibilities

Requires training and employee-relations skills

Working Conditions

Requires ability to conduct multiple daily tours of area of responsibility (85% of shift); Exposure to

chemical agents and biomedical waste; Ability to manipulate up to 30 pounds; Flexibility to cover all

shifts, as needed.
