Rate of Pay:



This position is a grade 16 with a minimum of $72,417 and a mid-point of $96,556. Salary offer will be commensurate with the education/experience, in alignment with the College's compensation philosophy, and the current CBA, if applicable.

Job Summary:



An employee in this classification enhances the educational environment by collaborating with faculty to optimize studio and lab spaces to ensure they meet instructional needs. This role involves establishing and maintaining an annual audit process to identify improvements and inform planning and budgeting. It requires coordination with various departments and external partners to address issues promptly. The position also supports faculty in integrating technology and equipment into their teaching, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and facilitating experiential learning opportunities for students. Supervising lab assistants and student workers is a key responsibility, along with maintaining accurate inventory records of instructional equipment and supplies. General direction is received by the assigned manager.



Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:




  1. Bachelor's degree in in a relevant field; such as visual and performing arts, educational administration or facilities management.
  2. (3) Three years of experience in in managing educational facilities, art studios, or similar environments.
  3. Demonstrated ability to analyze problems, develop and implement creative, innovative solutions.
  4. Ability to collaborate with faculty and other staff to effectively support studio and lab learning environments
  5. Strong project management skills including: Ability to create detailed plans, set timelines, and organize resources efficiently
  6. Communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders
  7. Manage conflicts
  8. Prioritize tasks, manage deadlines and ensure timely completion
  9. Proficiency in various niche software used in visual and performing arts preferred (e.g., 3D modeling software, lighting design software); ability to learn and adapt to new software tools
  10. Strong technical aptitude with ability to learn how to operate and maintain a wide range of equipment used in visual and performing arts, such as Apple computers, cameras, lighting, soundboards, scanners, 3D printers, etc.
  11. Demonstrated ability to interact, work, and develop meaningful relationships with people of various cultural backgrounds
  12. Background in visual and/or performing arts to understand the specific needs of studio and lab spaces is preferred Knowledge of safety protocols and compliance standards related to the use of technical equipment and hazardous materials



Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:



Master's degree preferred

Prior supervisory/management experience preferred



Essential Duties:




  1. Collaborate with faculty to optimize studio and lab instructional spaces to meet instructor and student needs. Implement and maintain annual studio/lab audit process to identify opportunities for improvement and inform division planning and budgeting. Coordinate with IT, Operations and Maintenance, and other college departments or external partners to address problems/issues in a timely manne
  2. Assist faculty in incorporating technology and equipment into instruction. Identify and champion opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration across academic departments and inclusion of real-world applications into instruction. Assist faculty with experiential learning opportunities for students such as participation in exhibition and other showcase opportunities (e.g. Skyway, St. Charles Art Festival, Spire, etc.).
  3. Supervise, evaluate and assign work for Lab Assistants and faculty working under additional assignments. Supervise and assign areas of responsibility to student workers under the daily direction of lead faculty.
  4. Collaborate with faculty to ensure inventory records of instructional equipment established and maintained to inform planning and budgeting processes. Manage student equipment inventory to ensure necessary items accessible for student use outside of class to support learning. Establish and refine processes related to equipment use, replacement, storage, etc.
  5. Oversee maintenance of the college's art collections. Install and rotate the permanent art collection in public college's spaces and grounds. Archive and maintain physical and digital records for the permanent collection, past exhibitions, examples of faculty and student work and faculty and student juried shows.
