Research Chemist, Color Specialist

PPG has a job opening for a Color Specialist in the aerospace Science and Technology team. You will be based in Burbank, CA, with direct responsibility of pigment evaluation and color measuring systems. You will report to Associate Director of aerospace color technology.

Key Responsibilities

* Responsible for evaluation and introduction of new high-performance pigments to improve color capabilities in aerospace topcoats.

* Develops and evaluates tints and toners for color blending processes and understands their interaction in different paint systems.

* Responsible for evaluation of new color measurement tools to improve color matching capability of topcoat colors.

* Provides solutions related to color measuring equipment and color software.

* Develops & standardizes color measurement procedures and policies for color matching.

* Sets up and operates electronic, mechanical or hand operated laboratory equipment.

* Records data on manual and/or computerized systems.

• Understands and complies with PPG and aerospace quality and EH&S policies, as well as any relevant customer-specific requirements.

Qualifications

• Minimum BS degree in chemistry, physics, chemical engineering or a related field. Advanced degrees preferred.

• Two (2) years of experience in laboratory work with strong knowledge on pigments, tints, color measurement technology as well as color matching required.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

• Must pass a color blindness test.

* Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Salary Range: $80,000 to 95,000 depending upon experience
