Employee Relations Manager

We're seeking an Employee Relations Manager to join the Corporate HR Team. The Employee Relations Manager helps make sure the company follows all the right legal and ethical practices when it comes to how we treat our associates. The goal is to look out for both the individual and the company. This role involves guiding and coaching managers on how to handle associate conflicts and issues, making sure things are handled legally and fairly. The ER Manager also works closely with leaders across various departments to provide support and advice on associate-related matters.

On a day-to-day basis, this includes interpreting and enforcing company policies, resolving employee relations issues, conducting investigations, and offering coaching when needed. They're also responsible for organizing associate engagement events and managing the events calendar. The role involves working cross-functionally across HR initiatives and providing excellent service to everyone at NCH.

Day-to-day work examples

  • Coaching/Counseling on employee issues
  • In depth investigations, developing action plans and follow up
  • Educate management and employees regarding corrective actions, moves and terminations to ensure complete documentation and compliance with company guidelines
  • Partner with business leaders and Legal to ensure open lines of communication
  • Own HQ campus engagement events and activities
  • Work with L&D to execute a training process for Managers/Associates
  • Train Managers and Employees on Policies and procedures
  • Assist with New Hire On-boarding
  • Review current policies and revise to bring them into compliance annually. Add policies to support changes in business or regulations. Partners with members of the HR Compliance team and Legal to update NCH Handbook.
  • Coordinate the responses to unemployment claims, ensuring documentation/response is correct, complete, and timely to protect company's interests
  • Perform other duties as needed



Skills and Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 3+ years of corporate related HR experience with similar responsibilities; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. SHRM qualifications are a plus
  • Problem Solving Skills: Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem solving situations; Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics. Capable of resolving escalated issues.

  • Leadership - Exhibits confidence in self and others; Inspires and motivates others to perform well; effectively influences actions and opinions of others; Accepts feedback from others; Gives appropriate recognition to others.
  • Diversity - Demonstrates a solid working knowledge of EEO policy; Shows respect and sensitivity for cultural differences; educate others on the value of diversity; promotes a harassment-free environment; works to builds a diverse workforce.
  • Ethics - Treats people with respect; Keeps commitments; inspires the trust of others; works with integrity and ethically; Upholds organizational values.
  • Judgement - Displays willingness to make decisions; Exhibits sound and accurate judgment; Supports and explains reasoning for decisions; Includes appropriate people in decision-making process; Makes timely decisions.
  • Technical Skills: To perform this job successfully, and individual should have a working knowledge of HRIS, Internet Applications, Excel, Word and Performance Management Systems.
