Major Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the positioning and immobilization of patients and proper selection of technical factors along with computer reformatting of acquired data to obtain magnetic resonance scans of optimal quality.
    • 1)Selects appropriate technical factors on an individual patient and procedural basis to provide optimal quality examinations
    • 2)Performs post processing of computer data to enhance data and image information.
    • 3)Operates support equipment for MRI, such as: independent workstation additional disc drives, pressure injector, patient monitoring system, PACS.
    • 4)Transfers patients to and from MRI scanning table and prepares patient for examination by explaining procedure and answering any questions patient may have.
    • 5)Initiates IVs for administration of contrast media for MRI enhancement in accordance with departmental policy and utilizing universal precautions in the process.
    • 6)Follows the technologist workflow to send documentation to PACS. The technologist workflow is as follows: 1)Start the examination in RadNet 2)Perform the examination 3)Complete the case in RadNet A) Select appropriate scan room B) Charge for contrast media 3)Scan all paperwork and data sheets A)Include Lab results B)Include Medication Reconciliation sheets 4)Verify case only after all images,series, and data have been sent to PACS A)Verify total number of images in PACS B)Verify(0) image exams C)Verify exams with images
    • 7)Archive images to optical discs.
  • Accountable for securing pertinent history from patient, patient's chart or family member to provide the radiologist with adequate information for examination interpretation and to ensure procedural criteria is met
    • 1)Assists in obtaining confidential history of patient which includes documentation of lab values (BUN,Creatnine,GFR) and allergy screening to ensure appropriateness of patient for examination as well as ensuring the administration of contrast agents during required procedures.
  • Accountable for being compliant with established Accrediting Organization and department safety standards to ensure patients and staff wellbeing at all times
    • 1)Maintains magnetic safety standards
    • 2)Maintains fire safety standards
    • 3)Maintains knowledge of department Code Blue policy.
    • 4)Maintains knowledge of departmental disaster, evacuation and quench policies.
    • 5)Maintains and constantly implements universal and infectious safety standards.
    • 6)Maintains documentation of equipment malfunctions and notifies appropriate personnel.
    • 7)Attends mandatory in-services
    • 8)Promotes patient safety by reporting issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives.
  • Accountable for obtaining documentation for department records related to patient statistics, supplies, patient billing information and preservation of patient records
    • 1)Documents confidential patient's history to ensure appropriateness of patient for examination.
    • 2)Documents patient charge data, modifying and initiating charges as procedure modifications are made per the radiologist.
    • 3)Documents any allergic reaction, incident report regarding staff or patient situations.
    • 4)Provides timely information for inventory of supplies
    • 5)Assists in scheduling of examinations.
  • Accountable for keeping abreast of current magnetic resonance, and radiological skills and of new developments in the field.
    • 1)Responsible for attending in-services and educational seminars when appropriate
    • 2)Responsible for instructing other technologists to certain new techniques learned, as well as working with students when required.
  • Accountable for maintaining good relations when dealing with all persons encountered in daily performance of job. Associate is expected to follow the Advocate Standards of Behavior. Associate is expected to use AIDET when interacting with patients, family members, and visitors.
    • 1)Relating with Internal Customers - fellow staff members, physicians
    • 2)Relating with External Customers - ancillary departments, inpatients/outpatients, family members.

Education/Experience Required:

  • Graduate of an approved Radiologic Technology program and/or
  • 1 year as a MRI Technologist or graduate of a certificate program in MRI Technology

Certification/License:

  • Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) registration and certification issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) needs to be obtained within 6 months of date of hire, or
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification issued by the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) within 6 months of date of hire, or
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification issued by the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) within 6 months of date of hire.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Basic knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and routine MRI procedures.
  • ARRT Registry - CPR Certification -MRI registry eligible -Must pass MRI boards within 6 months of hire.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work overtime when required. -Ability to be flexible in starting times to meet demands.(weekend rotation and flexible hours.) -Attends additional educational and safety inservices. -Ability to respond to work at short notice. -Exposed to radiation. -Ability to operate portable equipment. -Ability to deal with extremely ill patients. -Ability to communicate with patients -Ability to adjust to flexible work hours. -Ability to work weekends, holidays, and emergency call-back. -Ability to participate on-call program and available to department needs with minimal notice. -Ability to do light, medium or heavy lifting. LIGHT: Lifting up to 20-50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. MEDIUM: Lifting up to 20-50 pounds occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly. HEAVY: Lifting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds constantly. -Ability to make independent professional decisions using good judgment skills. -Ability to practice high quality patient care and technical competence. -Ability to function with minimal assistance in performing job activities. -Ability to demonstrate oral and written communication skills. -May be exposed to hazardous chemicals. -Ability to attend out-of-town site visits to view equipment. *This position will need to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e., understand child growth and development, normal patterns of adolescent behavior and look for signs of normal aging. Prior experience with various age groups is preferred.
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
