What You'll Do:

Land Management. Provide functional and technical support for effective management of land and leasehold assets. Participate in projects with cross-functional teams to address business opportunities or challenges. Provides environmental and land expertise for new projects. Advises and supports on land management practices and processes including land acquisition, land divestment, permitting and zoning, and others.

Mine Planning. Gathers and utilizes geologic mapping, drill data, hydrologic information, quality testing results, topography, aerial photography, survey data, sales forecasts and other mine planning data to design 3-D mine plans and mining/stripping schedules. Develops and communicates reserve estimates, short-term mine plans, long-term mine plans, and mine reclamation plans. Estimates stripping volumes, prepares stripping plans and assists with preparation of stripping bid packages.

Analyze and Document Land Use Information. Gather, review, analyze, and document property lines, mining setbacks, easements, zoning, special use agreements, neighbor concerns, and other site-specific land use information as necessary for the mine planning process.

Permitting. Secures land-use entitlements, monitors and manages compliance with operating permits. Supports aggregate operations in maintaining compliance with land use entitlements and resource agency permits.

Oversee Consultant Work. Oversee consultant work for permitting projects, land-management and mine engineering projects.

Generate and Maintain Site Plans and Maps. Generate and maintain an updated life-of-mine site plan for all locations. Maintain aerial photos and topographic maps/site maps on the network server in an up-to-date and current status. Assist with reserve documentation.

Ensure Compliance. Verifies accuracy of legal descriptions of properties; resolves ownership disputes; updates property records. Assists the legal department on property matters.

Prepare Presentations. Assist in the preparation of presentations, documentations, reports, and maps as needed.

Champion Continuous Improvement. Identify opportunities to increase efficiencies, maximize reserve recovery, reduce costs, minimize wastes, and reduce impacts to neighbors. Assist operations managers with efforts to lower operating costs. Assists operations managers with efforts to improve safety, increase efficiency and lower operating costs. Works with Division personnel to support, and participate in public outreach programs.

Travel. 30% travel is required.

Qualifications

Skills You'll Need:

Education. B.Sc. in Mining Engineering (preferred) or in an associated technical field such as Geology, Geological Engineering, or Civil Engineering with some mine planning experience.

Experience. 5 years or more of geology, mining engineering, Land Management, Permitting or operations experience preferred. Knowledge of the aggregate mining industry is helpful, but not required. PE/CPG preferred, but not required.

Industry Knowledge. Knowledge of basic mining engineering and geologic concepts, as well as of the federal, state and local regulations and statutes which affect mine planning.

Functional Knowledge. Must have the ability, either through formal training or experience, to create mine plans, compute stone reserves, and interpret data including geologic testing results, topographic maps and regulatory requirements. Basic surveying knowledge preferred.

Mine Planning Skills. Must have the ability, either through formal training or experience, to create mine plans, compute stone reserves, and interpret data including geologic testing results, topographic maps and regulatory requirements,

Analytical Skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary.

Technology Skills. Proficiency in 3D-CAD design, Excel, and other pertinent computer software is required. Specifically, must be proficient in the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Carlson and/or MineSight software.

Interpersonal Skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are mandatory. Must be able to present complex information in a clear and concise manner. Position requires ability to successfully interact and build relationships with VMC personnel from a wide range of departments and levels of authority, as well as with representatives of government and regulatory agencies.

Behavioral Expectations. Employee expected to be self-motivated and to manage multiple projects effectively without close supervision. Must be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Employee is expected to behave ethically and with integrity at all times. Must comply with safety and environmental rules, policies and regulations. Strong positive customer service attitude toward internal and external customers is expected.
