Mechanical Designer for Y-12 will be responsible for producing CAD drawings of HVAC Systems and Fire Sprinkler Systems in support of nuclear and non-nuclear projects at the Y-12National Security Complex. Designer will prepare conceptual design and construction output documents to include the following:
The Mechanical Designer will be responsible for interpreting, organizing, and executing assignments and engineering designs for HVAC Systems and Fire Sprinkler Systems. The candidate will be expected to assist in gathering field data unique to each project. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, 3D Modeling, 2D CAD drafting, field walk downs, drawing layout, multi-discipline coordination, interference evaluation, and interfacing with AE firms. The designer must be proficient with developing drawings (plans, sections, details, Ventilation & Instrumentation Diagrams, and Airflow Diagrams) and providing general notes on design drawings. A strong candidate for the Mechanical Designer position must have experience with design and layout of HVAC Systems and Fire Sprinkler Systems. This experience should include, but not limited to, duct routing, pipe routing, component selection, and sprinkler spacing. Experience with ASHRAE standards, SMACNA details, and NFPA standards is preferred. Candidate must effectively and cooperatively work as a team member of an integrated project team and utilize sound time management. Field walkdowns will routinely be performed. What You Can Expect

The minimum education and experience for the lowest career level in the job posting range are listed under Minimum Job Requirements. Successful candidates hired into a higher career level than the minimum in the range must meet the requirements listed in the job leveling charts for the career level into which they are being hired.
If a range of Career Levels is posted, i.e., Senior Associate to Senior Specialist, internal applicants already in one of the Career Levels would come across at their current Career Level. Internal applicants currently in a lower level Career Level would move to the lowest posted Career Level.
Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply. CNS is a drug-free workplace.
