Overview

The Rail & Aviation Bureau at the Agency of Transportation (AOT) is very excited to be hiring a new leader to join our project delivery team. This is a great opportunity to emerge as a leader in the Bureau and manage an array of projects from start to finish. Your duties will include management of consultant designers, consultant project managers, and the guiding of Rail & Aviation projects through planning, design and construction processes. Your responsibilities will include improvement projects like railroad crossings, railroad bridges, railroad track infrastructure, airport runway & taxiway reconstruction, airport land & planning, slope stabilizations, emergency response projects, and more. Your duties will also include budget & critical path method schedule development, asset prioritization and federal grant project management. A Professional Engineering license preferred.

This position, AOT Project Manager I (Job Requisition #50798), is open to all State employees and external applicants.This is a Limited Service position, which is non-tenured and authorized for a specific period of time. Limited Service positions are established for specially funded projects or programs.

Environmental Factors

Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be necessary. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis and these should be handled in a professional and respectful manner.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in Engineering AND three (3) years or more of professional experience in civil engineering.

OR

Bachelor's degree in Engineering OR Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) AND five (5) years or more of professional experience in civil engineering.

OR

Associate degree and ten (10) years or more of experience in Transportation Engineering or related field, including one (1) year or more of experience in the aspects of project delivery.

OR

Certification in Project Management (PMP Certificate) with ten (10) years of experience in Transportation Engineering or a related field, including one (1) year or more of experience in the aspects of project delivery.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience interpreting project plans and cost analysis, contract compliance and interpretation, methods of time estimation and recording.

Special Requirements

Some positions may require two years of supervisory experience. Participation in State of Vermont provided supervisor development programs may be substituted for supervisory experience.
