The Vertex Co-op Program offers students the opportunity to learn about the pharmaceutical industry from a hands-on perspective. You will be working closely with and learning from some of the brightest people in the industry. Job Summary:

The VCGT Pharmacology Department at Vertex is dedicated to supporting cutting-edge cell and gene therapy programs and drug development pipelines. From target identification to preclinical pharmacological assessment, we strive to advance innovative treatments that address unmet medical needs.

We are currently seeking a passionate and self-motivated intern to join our dynamic team to facilitate the in vivo and ex vivo activities utilizing rodent species (mouse and rat). Your primary responsibilities will include logistical support for in vivo study planning and preparation, sample collection, and electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) documentation, new method development, proof of drug delivery, and proof of concept studies. Our team will provide training opportunities to those who would like to gain experience in preclinical studies with small experimental animals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide logistical support for in vivo study planning and preparation.
  • Collect samples and maintain accurate documentation in electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs).
  • Contribute to the development of new methods for pharmacological assessments.
  • Assist in conducting PoD and PoC studies using rodent models.
  • Collaborate closely with team members to ensure smooth execution of experiments.
  • Actively engage in training opportunities to gain expertise in preclinical studies with small animal models.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Pharmacology, Biology, or related field.
  • Experience in conducting in vivo studies with rodent models.
  • Experience in method development and optimization is desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex data sets.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Track record of scientific contributions, evidenced by publications or presentations.
  • Permanent legal authorization to work in the United States
  • Candidate must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before May 2025
  • Candidate must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from January - June 2025
