Description

The Carruth Center for Counseling and Psychological Services in the Division of Student Life is seeking applications for a Behavioral Health Therapist. This position provides short-term individual and group counseling, crisis management, outreach/consultation, services for undergraduate, graduate and professional students, and training for practicum interns at the center.

What you'll do:



  • Provide multiculturally-sensitive brief counseling (virtual and in person) for individuals with diverse presenting concerns.
  • Provide clinical services including, but not limited to, assessment, treatment planning, short-term counseling, group therapy, crisis intervention services, psychoeducation, and case management.
  • Provide clinical services both in-person and through telehealth platforms.
  • Conduct comprehensive intake evaluations, triage, and participate in CCPPS's crisis intervention services, crisis clinic, and after-hours crisis coverage (initial responses and crisis stabilization provided by ProtoCall staff).
  • Administer and document risk assessments and risk reduction interventions.
  • Provide consultation and outreach to clients and their families, WVU faculty/staff, and the university community.
  • Complete required documentation in an electronic health record system and quality assurance activities including routine monitoring and management of student treatment compliance (i.e., missed appointments, cancellations, etc.) in accordance with agency policies and state and federal regulations.
  • Attend case conference, committees, task forces, and other meetings related to the mission of the Center and the university.
  • Provide clinical supervision to trainees and facilitate seminars on a variety of clinical or professional topics.
  • Serve as a liaison to various campus stakeholders and ensure that students, faculty and staff are provided with timely information regarding CCPPS and student mental health concerns and resources.


Qualifications - Internal

  • MA, MS, in social work (MSW), counseling, clinical/counseling psychology, or related field is required.
  • Completed master's level practicum/internship or related work experience in providing outpatient counseling to students or a young adult population
  • Preferred qualifications:

    • Experience providing clinical services in a multidisciplinary setting.
    • Experience providing services to diverse, college-age students or other adults (e.g., students of color, LGBTQ+ students, international students, non-traditional students, military veterans).
    • Experience with Excel, Microsoft Access or similar software.
    • Ability to navigate and to collaborate with university and healthcare systems.
    • Geographical availability to provide timely on campus emergency responses during on call weeks (2- 4 weeks per year).


  • Demonstrated commitment to cultural humility and affirmative care for all students.
  • Knowledge, skills, and expertise required to proficiently conduct, document and evaluate multiculturally-sensitive intake/ triage/crisis assessment, individual, and group counseling, and consultation/outreach across a range of mental health concerns.
  • Knowledge, skills, and expertise required to understand the role and functioning of Student Life and Academic Affairs policies and procedures to facilitate university-wide retention efforts.
  • Knowledge, skills, and expertise required to proficiently conduct training and consultation with and linkage to academic support entities in a university setting.
  • Ability to utilize an electronic health record system.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work with a team.
  • Demonstrated experience with substance use disorder treatment with a college-aged population.
  • Knowledge, skills, and expertise required to proficiently provide care management and to actively identify and decrease barriers to care.
  • Skills and abilities required to assess and respond to unpredictable clinical presentations and related calls from campus and parent stakeholders in the context of ethical and legal parameters.
  • Experience with data management and related software.
  • Practical and ethical knowledge regarding the provision of telehealth services.

Requirements

  • License-eligible; must obtain a Provisional License and/or License (LICSW/LPC) within the State of West Virginia in counseling, psychology, or related field within two years of being hired for the position (Preference for applicants who are licensed or within six months of licensure).
