Position:Effort Coordinator, Research Finance

Location: Boston, MA

Schedule: 40 hours per week, Hybrid (on-site 1 day per week)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Effort Coordinator monitors and audits effort reporting for sponsored awards. This position ensures sponsored projects follow hospital policies/procedures and applicable regulatory compliance standards as it relates to effort reporting. Provides training and guidance to Principal Investigators (PIs) and Department Administrators on effort reporting and effort compliance. Assists with a variety of internal and external audits including the Single Audit.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • The Effort Coordinator will be responsible for identifying the population of employees required to certify effort per BMC policy, sponsor terms and conditions, and state or federal regulations, and conducting audits of certified effort reports to ensure compliance
  • Reviews and approves salary allocations to BMC sponsored programs, ensuring compliance with BMC's Cost Transfer Policy and Effort Reporting Policy
  • Reviews certified effort reports for accuracy and compliance with policy and regulations. Communicates with departments on corrections as needed.
  • Manages effort reporting process for all BMC employees using Workday processes


  • Responsible for communicating with investigators and/or department administrators regarding effort reporting compliance, which may include trainings, workshops, or one-on-one consultations
  • Assists with high-level reporting on certification process and performs periodic internal control activities related to effort certifications. Runs monthly reports on mapping error reports
  • Assists in supporting internal and external sponsor audits, pulling together supporting documentation and liaising with department staff to meet audit needs.
  • Suggests process improvements and enhancements to the effort reporting system to ensure a streamlined and easy process for department administrators

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • BS/BA or equivalent work experience preferred, preferably in Accounting, Finance or Business

EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires one to three years of relevant work experience, preferably in an Accounting or Financial role

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:


  • Requires strong computer skills, including a comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Individual should have strong interpersonal skills with a high degree of analytical ability and capable of communicating effectively, both verbally and written
  • The ideal candidate will possess strong deductive reasoning skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are required
