JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Kapur Laboratory at The Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences is seeking a highly motivated and organized Research Technologist to support their global health and infectious disease research efforts.

Supported by major funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, National Institutes of Health, and the US Department of Defense, our lab is focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms and risks associated with major animal and zoonotic infectious diseases and developing novel strategies for their improved diagnosis, treatment, and control.

Responsibilities:

• Perform molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, PCR (Real-Time/conventional), gel electrophoresis, bacterial and viral culture, serological assays (ELISA), DNA sequencing, and data analysis as required.
• Lab organization and operations including order and manage lab reagents and supplies, as well as ensure lab organization and safety in accordance with Environmental Health and Safety protocols.
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for best practices including for lab operations and safety.
• Monitor and support undergraduate student researchers as required.

Education and Experience: At the minimum, this position requires a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related life sciences field and 1+ years of related experience.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with essential molecular biology techniques and be ready to contribute to cutting-edge research. Proficiency in the following techniques is a must:

• Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)- both Conventionaland Real-time (qPCR)
• Gel Electrophoresisfor nucleic acid and protein analysis
• ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay)for protein detection and quantification
• Cell/bacterial culture
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and to multi-task

Additional experience and familiarity with the following are highly desirable:

• Cloning and Recombinant DNA Technology for gene manipulation and molecular cloning
• Protein Expression, Purification, and Analysis, including techniques such as Western Blotting and Mass Spectrometry
• Gene Expression Analysis for studying mRNA levels and transcriptional activity
• Sequencing Techniques, including Sanger and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS)
• Genome and Proteome Analysis for in-depth study of genetic and protein data
